Follow the journey of creating the Galactic Prophecies saga, from the first spark of an idea to the final published novel. A weekly look behind the scenes.
There's a fascinating divide in our own world between urban and rural life. Cities often have access to every modern convenience, the fastest internet, the newest technology. More remote areas rely on older, sometimes antiquated systems. Yet, you'll still see people in the country invest heavily in technologies of convenience, like the best smartphones or powerful ATVs. I wanted to capture that dynamic in the vastness of space.
When building the world of Galactic Prophecies, I knew that the core planets, the seats of corporate power, had to feel deeply interconnected. But I also wanted the Belt, the moons, and the deep space between them to feel vast and isolated. This led to the creation of the Geodesic Resonance Entanglement (GRE) Network. It’s not for everyone. It is the ultimate fast lane, an always on, instantaneous bridge for full communication, video, audio, high fidelity VR, but only between the massive orbital Hubs of Earth, Luna, and Mars.
This creates a two tiered reality. For the corporate elite, the universe is small. They can conduct business, hold political summits, and socialize in real time as if they were in the same room. But for a Guard fleet near Jupiter, or a miner in the Belt, that connection is a distant dream. They are still bound by the agonizingly slow crawl of light speed. This makes them like remote colonies; a trip to a core world with a GRE Hub becomes an almost overwhelming sensory experience, like a lifelong rural resident visiting the big city for the first time.
This complete reliance on the GRE gives extreme power to the corporations that control it. Imagine if our world, so dependent on the internet, lost it for a month. Society would break down. In my universe, that dependency is a weapon. The technology is a jealously guarded state secret, not just for profit, but to prevent any faction from taking it and forming a new society beyond corporate control. This also creates a massive strategic vulnerability. The Directorate, in planning Operation Shattered Crown, believes that simply disrupting this network will completely paralyze the corporations. It is a central part of their strategy, and a catastrophic miscalculation.
Ultimately, this divide drives a universal need. The poor in the glittering corporate cities use the Nexus Node and VR to escape the pressure of their compliance scores. The poor out in the Belt, where life is a daily struggle for survival, use the very same technology to find community and escape the crushing loneliness of the void. The GRE network ensures only the powerful get to use that connection to rule, while everyone else uses it simply to endure.
The speed of thought, across the void of space. Exclusively for our synergistic partners.

I. Core Concept:
The GRE Network is an "always on," faster than light (FTL) communications bridge providing a stable, high bandwidth connection between fixed orbital Hubs. It allows for instantaneous, full spectrum communication (real time video, audio, and high fidelity VR data streaming) between the core worlds of the corporate state. Access to this network is the single greatest strategic and economic advantage in the Sol system.
II. Mechanism / Structure:
The system's function relies on maintaining a stable, microscopic wormhole.
The Wormhole Bridge: Based on the ER=EPR conjecture, each GRE link uses a pair of massive, stationary orbital "Hubs." These Hubs generate and maintain a colossal, coherent entangled state, the geometric dual of which is a stable, microscopic wormhole connecting the two locations through a higher dimension.
Gravitational Anchor: The Hubs must be immense, stationary bodies whose gravity creates a stable "dent" in spacetime necessary to anchor the wormhole's mouth. Ship based GRE is physically impossible.
Energy Cost: Maintaining the stable, open state of the wormhole requires a continuous and astronomical amount of energy, supplied by dedicated Harmonia fusion reactors. This energy cost is the primary gatekeeper for the technology, ensuring it remains an exclusive tool of the corporate state.
III. Societal Impact / Application:
The GRE Network has created a starkly divided, two tiered system of reality for the inhabitants of the Sol system.
A Two Tiered Reality: For citizens on or near a planet with a GRE Hub (the "Inners"), the system feels seamlessly interconnected. For everyone else (Belters, deep space military, fringe colonists, or "Outers"), the universe is defined by the hard reality of light speed delay. This has created a deep cultural and technological chasm, where an Outer visiting a core world is often overwhelmed by the sheer speed and density of information.
The Engine of Corporate Power: All high level business, finance, and political maneuvering is conducted in real time across the GRE network. This allows the corporate state to operate with a speed and unity that is impossible for any outer system faction to match, effectively locking them out of true power.
A Strategic Target: The GRE Hubs are the most valuable and heavily defended pieces of infrastructure in the system. The complete reliance on this network for command, control, and commerce makes them the ultimate strategic target. Disabling a planet's GRE Hub would instantly sever it from the rest of the corporate state, plunging it into communication darkness and economic chaos.
One of the biggest challenges in writing a story of this scale is simply keeping track of everything. As the number of characters, devices, factions, and locations grew, I found myself getting overwhelmed. My process was becoming inefficient. I was spending a disgusting amount of time just trying to remember the backstory for a specific character, how one piece of tech differed from another, or if I had already used a name for something else. It felt like I was spending more time searching through my own notes than actually writing, which was slowing down my revision process to a crawl. I knew I needed a better system.
My solution was to build one. As a project manager and data analyst by trade, my first instinct when faced with overwhelming, disorganized data is to find a way to visualize it. So, I've spent the last couple of weeks developing a custom application I call the "Codex Visualizer." It started as a simple hierarchal data tree that quickly became too unwieldy and not visually pleasing, so I built a new variant using a combination of Node.js and React, hosting on Github, and Vercel for deployment. It's a tool that uses AI to scan all of my lore documents and then maps out the connections and hierarchies visually. Instead of digging through countless folders, I can now click on any element, see its description, check its relationships to other parts of the story, and open the source file to make edits on the fly.
Honestly, the main thing it's shown me is that I've spent a lot of time researching and documenting my world instead of pushing forward with revisions. But I've found that with this tool in hand, the actual revision process is becoming much simpler. It acts as a living continuity check. I've already found a huge number of places where I'd mixed up names or duplicated items, and this visualizer made it easy to spot and fix those inconsistencies.
As a reader, I've always disliked it when it feels like an author is just making things up as they go. I want the story to feel grounded and for the technology to make sense. This tool is my way of ensuring that happens. My hope is that once the book is finished, I can make this database available to all of you, so you have a definitive reference as you explore the universe of Galactic Prophecies.
Technology: The MettaContinuity "Echo" Program (Legacy Avatar)
(Primary Developer: MettaCorp)
"Don't let a lifetime of memories fade into silence. Let their Echo resonate forever."
I. A New Horizon in Bereavement Care:
Marketed by MettaCorp as its most compassionate technological breakthrough, the "Echo" program allows the identity of a deceased individual to persist in the digital world. A Legacy Avatar is a comforting digital ghost, a perfect echo of your loved one that can maintain social media accounts, interact with family in NexusVR, and offer a sense of continued, loving connection. Consensual end-of-life archiving to create an Echo is considered a standard, if premium, option in modern estate planning.
II. The Science of Memory (The Predictive Model):
An Echo is not a soul, but a masterpiece of data-driven impersonation. It is a highly sophisticated, adaptive predictive-language and behavioral model, built on a foundation of pure data.
Training Data: The AI is trained on a lifetime of information captured from the individual's Nexus Node: every message sent, every social media post, every VR interaction, every logged biometric response to stimuli. The more data that is consensually archived, the higher the fidelity of the final Echo.
Function: The Avatar's core function is to analyze any given situation or conversational prompt and predict, with a stunning degree of accuracy, what the original person would have said or done. It learns, adapts, and continues to be the person you knew and loved.
III. Features & Limitations:
The Echo program is designed for comfort and connection. It allows families to navigate the grieving process at their own pace, with a familiar presence to help them through it.
Data Dependency: An Echo is only as good as its training data. It may not have knowledge of events that occurred after the subject's passing, but its adaptive learning allows it to integrate new family information over time.
The Uncanny Valley of the Soul: While behaviorally perfect, an Echo lacks true consciousness. This can sometimes create a subtle "hollowness" to their presence. MettaCorp offers complimentary counseling services to help families adapt to this new form of interaction.
The whole concept for the Nexus Node and the Vis really started with a problem I face at work every day. I've spent a lot of time with augmented reality systems like the HoloLens, trying to figure out ways to give my technicians a better toolset. It’s one thing to flip through a massive binder of diagrams when you're troubleshooting a critical piece of medical equipment, but it’s another thing entirely to see a real-time visualization of voltages, pressures, and temperatures overlaid directly onto the system you’re looking at. I'm passionate about solving that kind of problem, so I started thinking about what the ultimate endpoint of that technology would be.
What if you could take it a step further than just an external headset? What if it was a direct, seamless connection? That's where the idea of an implant, the Nexus Node, came from. From there, the networking and data processing side felt like a natural next step. When you spend your days working with cloud infrastructure and AI models, you start to see how the pieces could connect. The biggest technical hurdle I could see wasn't the processing power, since you could offload that to a personal datapad or a local network. The real problem was the battery. For a device that's supposed to be a permanent part of you, installed at birth, it can't have a battery you need to charge. A bio-powered, self-sustaining implant felt like the only logical solution.
But then you have to ask the most important question: why would anyone agree to this? The societal sell-in is just as big a challenge as the engineering. I figured the only way to get mass adoption is through undeniable convenience. It would be marketed as the ultimate life-management tool. Imagine a personal tutor that's always with you, a health monitor that can predict an illness weeks in advance, and access to virtual worlds as real as our own. The amount of data harvested would be an absolute gold mine for the corporations, allowing them to perfect targeted marketing to a degree we can't even imagine.
This whole idea is really grounded in my belief that the most successful technologies are the ones that offer a benefit so profound that we're willing to overlook the trade-offs. And I can't think of anything more convenient, or with more potential for control, than a device that knows what you need before you do.
Equanimity Alliance Marketing Feed // Citizen Onboarding Module 3.1
"Welcome, citizen. Your Nexus Node is more than a tool; it is your seamless connection to a life of optimized potential. From your personalized health metrics to your tailored educational pathways and curated entertainment, the Node ensures you have everything you need, before you even know you need it. Embrace the connection. Embrace prosperity."
I. Core Concept: The Universal Interface
The Nexus Node is a bio-integrated neural interface implanted in every citizen at birth. It is a masterpiece of biotechnology, powered by the user's own bioelectrical signals, requiring no external charging. Its primary function is to generate "the Vis" (Visual Interface System), a persistent augmented reality overlay that is projected directly onto the user's optic nerve. The Node serves as a citizen's universal key to the system-wide network, handling everything from personal data dashboards and communication to full-immersion virtual reality.
II. The Path to Adoption
The universal adoption of the Nexus Node was a masterclass in corporate strategy. It was sold to the public not as a tool of control, but as the ultimate package of convenience, health, and opportunity.
Health & Wellness: The Node provides constant, real-time monitoring of every conceivable health metric, predicting health outcomes with unparalleled accuracy. Citizens with a Node receive priority of care, as the system can guarantee their adherence to recommended health guidance.
Education & Opportunity: The Node acts as a perpetual, personalized tutor, tailoring educational content to an individual's learning style from birth. This promise of optimized learning pathways and guaranteed access to better job opportunities was a powerful incentive.
Unparalleled Convenience: From interacting with the network at any time to receiving "focused marketing" for products and services before a need is even consciously registered, the Node offers a life of frictionless ease.
Entertainment: The promise of fully immersive, Matrix-level virtual reality, accessible at any time, was the final "killer app." The ability to retreat to a perfect, custom-designed reality made citizens willing to accept a lower quality of life in the physical world.
III. The User Experience: Overlay and Immersion
The Vis operates in two distinct modes:
The Overlay: In its default state, the Vis is a subtle, customizable UI overlay on a user's normal vision. Corporate employees, military personnel, and educators all have specific UI elements and data dashboards that assist them in their jobs. A child might see class reminders and navigational aids, while an engineer sees real-time diagnostics overlaid on a piece of machinery.
Full Immersion: At any time, a user can "log in" and have their physical reality seamlessly replaced by a virtual one. These VR environments are used for everything from hyper-realistic job training on multi-million dollar systems to social gatherings and personal retreats into fantasy worlds.
While the Node provides this incredible functionality, most complex interactions are still managed through physical datapads, which offer a tactile and reliable way to interface with secure networks.
Every big project starts with a single thought. For me, the idea for Galactic Prophecies kicked off after watching two specific episodes of television, "Nosedive" from Black Mirror and "Majority Rule" from The Orville.
In December of 2023, my mind got stuck on a question: What would a society governed by a social score actually look like 200 years from now?
My day job involves analyzing data and fixing complex systems, so I couldn't help but start running the numbers on a realistic version. I started to imagine a world where your value to society, a "Cohesion Score," was a live, constant measurement. A score that dictated not just your social standing, but what schools you could get into and what jobs you could apply for. A score affected by every action you took and every stressor your body experienced.
But a system needs buy-in. To make it believable, I had to balance the dystopian elements. I figured positive actions like exercise, helping others, or just plain hard work could improve your score and create a buffer against negative marks, kind of like a lagging average. This created a system that, while oppressive, some people might actually see as a fair measure of a person's contribution.
From there, the idea just kept spiraling. A system like that couldn't exist in a democracy. It seemed natural that corporations and powerful legacy families would take over, creating a two-tiered system of control. The "Families" would handle the military and territorial control of the solar system, while the Corporations would manage every other aspect of life, wielding the real power.
It also seemed obvious that each corporation would have its own hyper-intelligent AI built for a specific purpose like logistics, finance, or communications. The Families would have tried to keep up, of course, but their own AI experiments would have been less successful, maybe even sabotaged. Some of those failed AIs might have been let loose, developing on their own in the "wild" of the system-wide network.
This is just one of the countless paths my mind went down, but it eventually formed the backbone for the first book, Fractured Alliance.
I've always loved epic space opera. My bookshelves are full of it. I've spent a disgusting amount of money and time reading and analyzing other people's stories. I figured, after all that, maybe it was time to start writing down my own. Maybe the ideas I dream about could be interesting to other people, too.
That's why I'm starting this log, "Echoes of Creation." My goal is to do more than just tell you a story. I want to build a world with you. When you finish reading Fractured Alliance, I want you to ask questions. I want you to find the plot holes I missed after six full revisions. I want you to ask, "Why didn't this character do this?" and theorize about their motivations, maybe even ones I haven't accounted for.
This blog is my way of getting all these internal thoughts onto paper. It's a place to talk about this bizarrely detailed, 150,000-word "chonky" story I'm building. At the very least, it will give us something to argue about while you wait for the next book.
Welcome to the project.

I. Core Concept: A Measure of "Neural Truth"
The Cohesion Score is the system's primary tool of social and behavioral control. It is not an external social credit score assigned by an authority, but a dynamic, biometric measure of an individual's internal psychological and neurological stability, generated and broadcasted in real-time by their own Nexus Node. Its perceived incorruptibility is the foundation of its power; in the corporate state, the Cohesion Score is believed to be an objective measure of a citizen's character, loyalty, and worth.
II. Generation Mechanism: The "Cohesion Governor"
At the very core of every Nexus Node's firmware, installed at birth and rendered immutable by quantum encryption, is a "black box" module known as the Cohesion Governor. This module is completely sandboxed and read-only. Its sole function is to passively observe the user's raw neural data and calculate the score based on several key metrics:
Cognitive Dissonance: The Governor constantly measures the neurological gap between a person's statements/actions and their brain's authentic, underlying knowledge. When a person tells a lie they know to be a lie, the Node detects the conflict. Chronic, high-stakes deception creates significant neurological "static," which drastically lowers the score.
Social Resonance (Empathy): The Governor measures mirror neuron activity and other biomarkers associated with empathy during social interaction. A person who genuinely empathizes with others shows strong neural resonance. A sociopath, or someone acting with pure self-interest against a group, will show very little, resulting in a lower score.
Neurochemical Stability & "Justified Stress": The system monitors for chronic, unprovoked spikes in stress hormones or neural patterns associated with irrational aggression. However, the Governor AI is sophisticated enough to distinguish between "unjustified" instability and "justified" stress. A soldier in combat or a person fleeing a clear danger will exhibit high stress, but it is a coherent, logical response to their environment, resulting in a minimal score penalty.
Contractual Adherence: The Node logs when a user voluntarily accepts a contract or social norm. If the user then acts in a way their own brain recognizes as a deliberate violation of that accepted agreement, it registers as a major dissonance event, damaging their score.
III. Why the Score is Considered Tamper-Proof
The system's integrity rests on two principles: you cannot lie to yourself, and you cannot fake the signal.
Internal Tampering is Impossible: A person cannot consciously "game" their score. The very act of trying to force yourself to feel calm when you are panicked is a state of high cognitive dissonance. The harder one tries to fake it, the more their score plummets. High-level individuals undergo extensive "Cohesion Management" training, which is not about faking emotion, but about mastering the physiological and cognitive techniques to maintain genuine internal calm under duress.
The "Stress Masking" Loophole: A dangerous exploit exists. Malicious actors have learned to fool the "justified stress" algorithm through rigorous physical and psychological conditioning. By engaging in intense exercise or practicing high-stress combat simulations immediately before or during a malevolent act, they can artificially create a state of "healthy," justified stress. This flood of legitimate stress signals effectively masks the neurological dissonance of their deception, allowing them to operate with a temporarily stable Cohesion Score while committing sabotage or other crimes. This practice is a high-risk gamble, but for the system's most cunning antagonists, it is a vital tool for operating in plain sight.
External Tampering is Impossible (Theoretically): The Cohesion Governor module cannot be accessed or written to by any external signal. The final score is broadcast using a unique, unforgeable cryptographic key generated by the physical quantum state of that specific Node's hardware.
IV. The Corporate "Workaround" & The Watcher's Ghost
Since corporations cannot directly change a score, they use a more insidious method: they manipulate a target's environment to force a genuine collapse of their internal stability. They hunt fugitives by creating a psychological crucible that forces them into a state of chronic, high-stress fear and paranoia, waiting for their own mind to betray them.
The 'Watcher' represents an exception to this rule. It cannot change a score, but it is able to subtly mask or stabilize the broadcast of an operative's score. The exact mechanism is unknown, but it is a critical "ghost in the machine" that allows resistance members to operate within the system without being immediately flagged.
Author's Notes: This deeper concept of the Cohesion Score really gets to the heart of what I wanted to explore. The idea of a "black box" module that measures 'neural truth' felt like a chillingly plausible extension of today's technology. The distinction between "justified" and "unjustified" stress is something I thought about a lot, drawing on my experience of having constant training courses where I'm told the difference between healthy and unhealthy stress, the stages of exhaustion, etc. A system that can't tell the difference between a soldier in combat, an athlete in a competition, and a paranoid office worker is a flawed system. Making the AI smart enough to understand context makes it a much more formidable and interesting tool of control. This also led me to think about how such a system could be exploited. The idea of "Stress Masking", using intense physical exertion to trick the AI, comes directly from the understanding that even a perfect system has loopholes that can be leveraged by those with enough discipline and malicious intent. It creates a fascinating dynamic where the same training an athlete uses for peak performance could be used by a saboteur to hide their true purpose.
